Quantity limitations and recommendations

Nofence provides virtual fencing of the herd but collars worn by the individual animals.

For you to succeed, we have set a lower limit to a minimum of five collars.

All animals in the herd using Nofence must wear a collar.

At this time our current collars and app would give you the best experience with smaller herds (less than 150 head).

You might want to learn about the current limitations from one of our customer advisors for use on larger herds.

We may open up for larger herds in the future and in the meantime you might start with a smaller herd

Longer chains for larger animals

Blog LindaH2-3

Longer chains for larger animals

The collar is delivered with a standard chain length which fits animals up to 46cm around the neck. If you have animals with wider necks eg. bucks/rams or larger breeds, you need to purchase additional longer chains.

For sheep and goats, we recommend that you can fit two fingers (4 cm) vertically between the neck strap and the animal’s neck.

The picture to the left shows a well-fitted long chain on a larger breed goat.

If you are uncertain the standard chain would be long enough, it may be a good idea to purchase additional sets of longer chains.

Shelter Beacon for Sheep and Goat

shelter-beacons-room

Use of Shelter Beacon

Shelter beacon – a Bluetooth unit used to switch off the fence function in Nofence collars within a 10-meter radius.

Inside buildings, roofs and walls might obstruct the GPS signal. This may cause false positions, and the animals might get warning sounds or electric pulses in the worst-case scenario. The shelter beacon prevents this from happening.

When a collar is within a 10-meter radius of a shelter beacon, the fence function is switched off. When the collar no longer is within a 10-metre radius the fence function is switched on again.

Animals using Nofence with access to a shelter or barn may experience poor GPS reception inside.

Shelters/barns need Nofence Shelter Beacons fitted inside to disable the fence functionality whilst the animals are inside the shelter. This reduces the risk of GPS drift.

You will need one pair of Shelter beacons per 25 square meters, and a minimum of 2 shelter beacons.

Runs on normal AA batteries

Spare Batteries & Chargers

Nofence_virtualfence_4-3-Jan-26-2023-07-40-08-4606-AM

Need for chargers

Charger recommendations are based on the number of collars in your order and the need to charge multiple batteries at the same time. When you receive your collars, all batteries will need charging prior to equipping your herd with collars.

When you receive the collars, the batteries will be approximately 30% charged (due to  shipping restrictions).

To fully charge a battery for a sheep & goat collar you need approximately 8-10 hours.

To fully charge a battery for a cattle collar you need approximately 14 hours.

Our recommendation below is based on standard customer needs.

Need for extra batteries

The number of extra batteries needed varies by  customer, hence recommendations are for the average customer needs.

Those experiencing longest battery life have relatively large pastures and quite a lot of sunlight that hits the solar panels.

Batteries can be changed while the collar is on the animal. A battery change requires running animals through a chute or handling cooperative animals.

Need for extra batteries

Cattle batteries stay charged for quite a long time. Extra batteries are more of a nice-to-have than a need-to-have.

Those experiencing longest battery life have relatively large pastures and quite a lot of sunlight that hits the solar panels.

Replacing batteries can be challenging while collars are on cattle. Adjustments to your chute may be necessary in order to access the collar. It is a good idea to plan battery replacements during times of the year you are working your cattle.

Subscription

Virtual fencing as-a-service

The total cost is divided into hardware costs and subscription costs.

The initial subscription covers your first 12 months of service and is paid for in advance. This helps to cover costs associated with virtual fencing, including data networks that allow the collars to communicate with the app, download any software updates and customer support.

Subscription cost cap

After the initial 12 month subscription, the costs change to monthly billing which allows for flexibility. You only pay for the months when collars are in use eg, if you don’t use collars for 4 months during the winter you will not pay for the subscription during these months.

Our maximum subscription charge is 8 months, meaning that if your graze year round you use Nofence free of charge for four months.

Det ideelle er selvsagt at du nikker

ja til alle egenskapene vi nevner over her.
