HerdNet™
Your herd's own local network
At Nofence, we’re always working to make our product smarter, more efficient, and easier for every producer to use, no matter where they graze.
Previously, every collar used to rely on its own connection to the server via the cellular network. In areas with weak signal, updates could be slow, inconsistent or never arrive. That's why we've developed HerdNet™, a smart collar-to-collar communication system now standard in all 2.5 collars. It keeps your livestock connected, even in areas with poor connectivity.
The result is smarter connectivity, quicker pasture moves and a system that's even simpler to use.
Smarter connectivity
Traditionally, virtual fencing systems have relied on each collar connecting to a server at regular intervals to send data and receive updates. This can be a challenge if some collars have limited cellular connectivity.
With HerdNet, any collar that connects to the server can fetch the latest updates and new pasture settings, then share them with nearby collars using low-power Bluetooth signals. This is especially effective within a short range, which is ideal for herds.

Faster pasture changes
HerdNet's innovative features speed up the connection between the collars, making pasture updates smoother and faster. The entire herd receives updates at the same time, even in areas with poor connectivity.

Even easier to use
With HerdNet, producers gain more control and efficiency in managing their livestock. Faster pasture updates mean less waiting and smoother transitions. A benefit for both producers and their livestock.

A result of customer feedback
HerdNet is the result of our commitment to making collars more reliable and easier to use, built on feedback from producers. We’ve focused on solving connectivity challenges, improving the user experience, and supporting responsible livestock care.
The Nofence team worked closely with a test group of producers, gathering feedback to refine the feature. The result is smarter connectivity, smoother pasture management, and added benefits like:
Faster updates support natural herd instincts by keeping pasture moves in sync. Research shows that when herd movement patterns are respected, stress in livestock is significantly reduced.
Improved connectivity, especially in hard-to-reach-areas, makes it easier to adopt precision grazing. With HerdNet, collars can share real-time data on location and activity.
By solving a longstanding connectivity challenge, HerdNet makes virtual fencing easier to adopt. It opens the door for more producers to use the technology, including those in areas with poor connectivity.
Faster updates help respect animals' natural herd instincts by ensuring synchronized pasture transitions. Research shows that respecting herd movement patterns significantly reduces stress in livestock.
Improved connectivity, particularly in harder-to-reach-areas, lowers the barrier of adopting precision grazing. With HerdNet, real-time data transfer of location and activity updates between collars becomes possible.
By solving a longstanding connectivity challenge, HerdNet lowers the barrier for more farmers to try virtual fencing. It enables more farmers to adopt the solution, including those in remote areas.
