How Nofence works with your phone

To get started with Nofence, all you need is a smartphone and a set of collars.

The collars use GPS to track livestock and detect when they’re near a boundary. To communicate updates and alerts, Nofence uses the mobile network — similar to how your phone sends a text message.

A stable mobile signal helps you get the most from Nofence.

What the mobile network does

Nofence collars uses mobile networks when you interact with the collars — for example, updating pastures or checking on your livestock.

When the collars are connected to a mobile network, you can:

  • Move your herd between pastures or update boundaries in seconds
  • See where each individual animal is  - real-time
  • Get alerts if something’s wrong, like no movement from a collar

The collars don’t need a mobile connection to enforce boundaries — they only need it to receive any changes made by you in the app, or to communicate back to you.

Best of all, because each collar has an internal sim-card which connects to the mobile networks  -  there is no need for a base station, nor a ground wire.

Which mobile networks support Nofence in the UK

In the UK, Nofence collars connect to O2, EE, and Vodafone. The collar automatically picks up whichever of these networks has the strongest signal on your land.

All providers offer coverage maps, so you can check signal availability where your livestock graze:
