Reduced Activity Detection

Getting early insight into changes in movement helps you care for your livestock with confidence.

Reduced Activity Detection

Early insight into changes in activity helps you care for your herd with confidence

What is reduced activity detection?

Livestock usually move in familiar patterns. When those patterns shift and movement decreases, it may mean attention is needed. The reduced activity detection feature monitors data from your Nofence collars and alerts you if changes continue, helping you stay proactive in herd care, even from a distance.

Healthy livestock usually move in familiar patterns. When those patterns shift and movement decreases, it may mean attention is needed. Reduced activity detection monitors data from your Nofence collars and notifies you if changes continue, helping you stay proactive in herd care, even from a distance.

The challenge: You can't be everywhere at once

Caring for livestock still requires being there in person to walk pastures, observe behavior, and notice when movement slows. That takes time, and subtle changes are easy to miss.

Reduced activity detection gives you an extra layer of awareness, so you can focus on what matters most.

The challenge: You can't be everywhere at once

Most livestock care still depends on being there in person: walking the pasture, observing the herd, and spotting when movement slows. That takes time, and subtle changes are easy to miss. Reduced activity detection gives you an extra layer of awareness, so you can focus on what matters most.

How reduced activity detection helps

With reduced activity detection, the Nofence system becomes an extra set of eyes on activity patterns:

  • Early awareness: get notified when movement drops noticeably over time
  • Better decisions: use clear insights to know when to check in
  • Peace of mind: stay informed, even when you're not nearby

Nofence provides the insight; you choose when and how to respond.

How it works

Reduced activity detection works with Legacy and 2.5 collars assigned to a pasture.

The system checks each collar’s activity continuously and compares it with:

  • the animal’s usual pattern over the past two weeks
  • the rest of the herd with the same collar type

If activity stays lower than expected, the system sends a reduced activity alert in the app.

In short: it learns what "normal" looks like for each animal and herd, and lets you know when the pattern changes so you can decide the next move.

Reduced activity detection works with Legacy and 2.5 collars assigned to a pasture.

The system checks each collar’s activity every 30 minutes and compares it with:

Works together with No movement detection alert

Reduced activity detection is designed to complement the existing No movement detection alert:

  • No movement detection alerts you when a collar stops registering any movement for four hours
  • Reduced activity detection lets you know when activity decreases significantly

Together, they give a clearer picture of herd wellbeing, so you can act early and confidently.
